United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, is hosting a 50th Anniversary Gala to celebrate their years of service to the Lake and Sumter Communities. The event “Journey through Time” will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Wildwood Community Center. The affair will start at 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The gala is to honor their impact in improving the quality of life in our communities throughout the years, to celebrate with their board members, partners, corporate sponsors, donors, and volunteers. It is going to be an exciting evening that will begin with a “red carpet” greeting and a menu that spans the decades. United Way will also reveal their very first “Home Town Hero” which is an award that recognizes individuals who are making a difference in our community.
“This is not about fundraising, but friend-raising and enhancing our partnership with our community as we move forward into the future,” said Dr. Alan Holden, CEO of United Way. “I want people to be reinvigorated and excited about the work, mission, and direction of United Way for Lake and Sumter Counties. I want to enhance, renew, and gain new partnerships. Without the partnership of our community, United Way cannot exist,” he added. Holden is hoping that this event brings awareness to the work United Way does. Often their funded partners get the recognition, which he agrees that they should get for their work, but United Way is the source that undergirds and funds much of what their partners are able to do. “Try to imagine the impact of our non-profits without United Way’s influence and support. Much of what our partners are able to do will be left undone.”
The presenting sponsor for the event is Publix. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (352) 787-7530 or visit uwls.org/united-ways-50th-anniversary-celebration/
